We are sponsoring operations on cats and dogs this weekend!!!

Ok, it´s been a looooooooooooooong time since we´ve written... in English at least.

We have decided to use a portion of the money we have received as donations to sponsor 11 operations within this week, weekend and next week.  It´s going to take about a year to really formulate legally the NGO and in the meantime, there are still stray dogs and cats that continue to reproduce on the streets.  With $200, we can sponsor 5 surgeries on cats that a volunteer of her own efforts, Sandra Triviño has collected from the Franklin slaughterhouse where they sell all kinds of meat and there are always a lot of cats.  Apparently, there are still 28 cats there that have not be fixed yet, most of them females.

The rest of the funds was donated to Yolanda Adonis and Gabriel Diaz who will be using it to operate on 2 dogs, one of which I met this evening, photos to come, and 5 cats as well.  The funds have already been transfered to the appropriate clinics that will be doing the operations; Animal Chile, Esteriliza Chile and Patitas Vet.  We will be sending by email a receipt of donation to everyone that has donated.  It was truly a treat to meet some of the dogs that have already benefited from the help of people like Romina, Yolanda, Sandra and Gabriel.  And, the dogs are so precious and beautiful.  They are finally beginning to allow people to pet them!  As mentioned, photos will be up soon.

We still continue to need your help.  There are still at least 45 cats to operate on that we know of in the locations we´re at and MANY dogs.  Usually, only the dogs are discussed but the reality is that the cat situation is the same or even worse.  Mainly because they are hiding during the day and for that reason, they don´t receive all the attention or help that they need. Another reason why we´ve decided to put the funds towards these cats at this moment.

It would be great to continue to receive your sponsorships and help.  With $30 we can pay for the surgery of a dog and $20 for a cat.

Apadrinar Cirugías Perras y Gatos

Hace tiempo no escribíamos... nos había costado tomar la decisión de que hacer. Al final, decidimos utilizar el dinero que nos había llegado mediante donaciones para apadrinar algunas cirugías de diferentes animalistas de Santiago. Esta decisión la tomamos porque legalmente nos demoraremos aproximadamente 1 año en ser un ONG oficial, y mientras tanto había animales abandonados que seguían reproduciéndose.

En total utilizaremos mientras tanto 200 dolares, con eso lograremos apadrinar 5 cirugías de gatas de Sandra Triviño, una mujer que realiza una labor incalculable con los gatos que van a abandonar al matadero Franklin, que es un lugar donde venden carnes de todo tipo y donde hay muchos gatos. Sandra me comentó que aún queda 28 gatos por castrar... la mayoría de ellos hembras.

El resto del Dinero fue para Yolanda Adonis y Gabriel Díaz, que se utlizará para la castración de dos perras y 5 gatas... El dinero se enviará mediante transferencia electrónica a las Clínicas Veterinarias correspondientes que serán Animal Chile, Esteriliza Chile y Patitas Vet. Y luego se enviará a cada uno de los que cooperó los comprobantes del dinero y próximamente fotos de las perritas y gatitas beneficiadas.

Aún necesitamos de su ayuda... aún quedan por lo menos 45 gatas que operar, y además de las perras. Acá lamentablemente sólo se habla de perros, pero la realidad del gatos es igual o peor, porque ellos no reciben ayuda de nadie.. por eso es que también decidimos ayudar a los antes nombrados.

Estaremos muy felices de seguir recibiendo su ayuda, con con U$30 apadrinamos una cirugía de perra y con U$20 una de gata.

Making advances...

It is wonderful to get feedback... whether positive OR negative, it´s always a learning experience...

Today we met with the owner of Chiledar, an organization that helps non-profits in their fundraising efforts.  It was definitely a learning experience and I think although animal related organizations in Chile are not as important to the general public as they are in the US and other more-developed countries, there is always a place to start!!!

After that meeting, we met with the founder of the Gonzalo Olave foundation (www.gonzaloolave.cl), which is probably the most well-known animal rights foundation in Chile.  We were able to see what they do and what they have done in the past and we were even invited to see the land they own in the northern countryside of Santiago, in Quilicura on Sunday!  It should be exciting for us to share our passions for animals!

On another note, we are meeting with a pro-bono student lawyer on Friday to get professional advice on the procedures for opening the NGO, empresa sin fines de lucro, empresa social, etc., and what they all mean...

As well, we have added a member to our team, Dr. Carlos Riquelme, who will be assisting in every surgery and it is a pleasure to have him with us!  We are looking forward to all working together for the cause!

Vamos avanzando!

Estimados Amigos! 


Les podemos contar que estamos muy felices y seguimos trabajando en nuestra misión.


Está semana estuvimos contactando empresas en Santiago, para invitarlos a un evento que haremos en beneficio de la fundación! Estaremos informando oportunamente la hora y día del evento. Pensamos que será el 3r jueves de abril.


Necesitamos reunir US$8500 para poder comenzar con el proyecto, y mensualmente los gastos asociados estarían al rededor de los US$5000. Necesitamos de su ayuda!


También pretendemos la próxima semana reunirnos con la Fundacion Pro Animal Gonzalo Olave y así poder recibir sus consejos, ya que ellos llevan dos años como fundación. Y también, ofrecerles nuestra ayuda para la cientos de perras que ellos alimentan semanalmente.


El equipo se va agrandando, un amigo el Dr. Carlos Riquelme, será nuestro ayudante en cada cirugía que hagamos y eso nos tiene muy felices también porque al igual que Elizabeth y yo para él es muy importante salir con el proyecto adelante.

Aspects to Know and Consider

General Info:

     In Chile, for a number of years, there has been the big problem of abandonment of animals, primarily because of the lack of education of the owners and little knowledge of how to responsibly care for one´s pet.

    Therefore, as we see in many Chilean cities, hundreds of abandoned animals who suffer through hunger, cold, rain; old and diseased animals that can also carry the diseases to the general human population.  The problem increases when there are abandoned females who become pregnant and have their litters in the street and the population just gets larger and larger over the years.

     The problem is most visable in the neighborhoods with less economic resources where the population cannot afford to use veterinary services and does not have enough education to decide not to have pets, let alone to take care of them economically speaking.  For these reasons, it´s estimated today that the current street dog population in Santiago is 250,000 to 400,000.  There is not a current estimate of cats at the moment.  However, this is an enormous amount of dogs without homes.

General Description of Foundation:

     Our foundation will be located in the downtown area of Santiago, the capital of Chile.  It will be focused on providing veterinary services primarily the spaying of female dogs and cats.

    We will do this in two ways:  the first will be to select under-developed neighborhoods to spay their dogs with no-cost to the owners.  The second will be to work with an Animal Protection Agency to provide the service to animals that they will bring to us.  Having them as an agency, we can provide post-operative care and find homes for the operated dogs and cats.  As well, they will provide us with the opportunity to provide education and trainings to the general population, in community centers, schools, and day-cares, focused on the responsibilities and care for pets.

    All of the animals involved will leave our foundation healthy; with all the up-to-date vaccines and required shots, inside and out.  

    As we continue to grow, we will continue to need the local and international communities support.  Please pass our information on to everyone you know.

Les cuento que en estos días nos estaremos reuniendo con un Abogado, que nos puede guiar sobre los pasos legales a seguir y poder comenzar lo antes posible con nuestra labor!, que es lo que más queremos.

Aspectos Generales A Considerar... pronto en inglés!

Datos Generales: En Chile, existe hace muchos años un problema grave de abandono de animales, principalmente por falta de educación por parte de los propietarios de éstos y poco conocimiento sobre la tenencia responsable de sus mascotas.

Es así, como vemos en las calles de muchas ciudades chilenas, cientos de animales abandonados que sufren hambre, frío, lluvia; animales viejos, animales enfermos que también pueden provocar enfermedades en la ciudadanía. El problema se acrecenta en el momento en que son abandonadas hembras que quedan preñadas y tienen sus cachorros en la calle y así aumenta y aumenta la población todos los años.

Este problema se presenta principalmente en los sectores socioeconómicos más bajos, en donde la población no tiene recursos económicos como para acceder a servicios veterinarios, y no tiene la educación suficiente como para decidir no tener mascotas, sino pueden hacerse cargo económicamente de ellas.

Es por esto, que actualmente se estima que en santiago existen una población actual (sólo de población canina) de entre 250.000 y 400.000 perros en las calles, y no se tiene estimación de la población felina.

Descripción General: Nuestra fundación estará ubicada en la comuna de Santiago, en la ciudad de Santiago, Capital de Chile. Se enfocará en prestar servicios veterinarios que resulten en la castración de hembras caninas y felinas.

Para esto utilizaremos dos modalidades: la primera será seleccionar pobladores con deficiencia económica y así poder castrar a sus mascotas sin costo alguno. La segunda será trabajar con una Agrupación de Protección Animal, prestando el servicio para animales que ellos tengan identificados en las calles, teniendo ,ellos como agrupación, la obligación de realizar el postoperatorio y la posible reubicación en algún hogar de las perras y gatas castradas. Mientras tanto, ellos nos aportaran con capital humano para realizar charlas en juntas vecinales, colegios y jardines, para poder dictar charlas sobre tenencia responsable de mascotas.

Todos los animales que sean intervenidos, se irán con su control sano al día. Eso quiere decir con sus vacunas correspondientes y desparasitación externa e interna.
